Installation, replacement and repair
Bidet toilet seat installation
A bidet toilet seat replaces your normal seat and adds a wash spray, fed from the toilet's water supply through a T-valve. Non-electric seats need no power, while electric seats need a power point near the toilet, fitted by a Licensed Electrical Worker if there is none.

When to replace or repair
- You want to wash rather than rely only on paper, without fitting a separate bidet.
- An elderly family member finds a handheld spray hard to use.
- Your current bidet seat leaks at the nozzle or the hose connection.
- An electric bidet seat no longer heats water, or its controls stop working.
- The seat has cracked or the nozzle no longer retracts.
Common reasons
- Hygiene and comfort, especially for elderly users or after surgery.
- Replacing a bidet spray that keeps wetting the floor.
- Renovation, when a new bowl is chosen with a bidet seat in mind.
- Upgrading from a non-electric seat to an electric one with warm water and a heated seat.
- A worn or faulty older bidet seat.
Before you call
Safe things to try first
- Measure the bowl from the bolt holes to the front edge and across the widest point, and check the shape. Bidet seats are bulkier than normal seats and do not fit every bowl.
- Check the flat space between the bolt holes and the cistern. Some bowls, especially one-piece designs, leave too little room for the seat's base.
- For an electric seat, look for a power point within reach of the cord and away from the shower.
- Check there is an angle valve at the cistern inlet where a T-valve can be fitted.
Stop and call if
- You want an electric seat but there is no power point near the toilet. Do not run an extension cord in the bathroom.
- Water leaks from the T-valve or hose after fitting.
- The electric seat trips the power.
What we do
- 1Check the bowl shape and size, the space behind the seat, the cistern inlet and, for electric seats, the power point.
- 2Shut the water supply and remove the old seat.
- 3Fit a T-valve at the cistern inlet so one outlet feeds the cistern and the other feeds the bidet seat.
- 4Mount the seat's base plate, slide the seat on and connect the supply hose.
- 5For an electric seat, plug into an existing safe power point. A new point near the toilet is installed by a Licensed Electrical Worker.
- 6Test the spray, nozzle positions and settings, and check every joint for leaks.

HDB, condo and landed
HDB
The bowl, seat and pipes after your meter are the owner's. For an electric seat with no power point nearby, a Licensed Electrical Worker must add one, placed away from the shower area.
Condo
Check your bowl's brand and model before buying, as some one-piece bowls do not suit bidet seats. Let security know about the visit, and check the by-laws if a new power point means drilling.
Landed
With several bathrooms, decide which ones get electric seats, as each may need its own power point. Upper floors with low pressure may give a weaker spray.
Bidet toilet seat installation: common questions
Will a bidet seat fit my toilet bowl?
Most bidet seats fit standard round or elongated two-piece bowls. One-piece bowls with a curved top, or a cistern sitting close to the seat, may not leave enough flat space. Measure and check the seat's fitting guide before buying.
Do I need a power point for a bidet seat?
Only for an electric seat. It should be a properly installed point within reach of the cord and away from the shower. If there is none, a Licensed Electrical Worker must install it.
Electric or non-electric bidet seat: which should I choose?
Non-electric seats cost less, need no power and have fewer parts to fail, but spray unheated water unless they can be connected to a hot supply. Electric seats add warm water, a heated seat and more settings, at a higher price.
Will a bidet seat affect my toilet's flush?
No. The T-valve splits the supply so the cistern fills as before. Low water pressure can weaken the bidet spray, though.
How do I clean a bidet seat nozzle?
Most nozzles extend for cleaning, either by hand or with a button on electric seats. Wipe with mild soap and avoid strong cleaners that can crack the plastic.
