What is the best toilet bowl to buy in Singapore?
Quick answer
For most HDB swaps, a 3-tick, soft-close bowl from American Standard, Baron, Grohe or TOTO that matches your outlet will do the job, and they start at about $380 on sale. Pay more for a rimless bowl, an easier-clean glaze, a longer warranty or a bidet seat, not for the brand name alone.
Check your outlet before you look at brands
A $1,200 TOTO that does not line up with your outlet is worse than a $380 bowl that does. So the first job is on your knees behind the old bowl, not in a showroom.
| Your outlet | Bowl to buy | How to tell |
|---|---|---|
| In the floor | S-trap | The waste pipe goes down under the bowl. Most HDB flats have this. |
| In the wall behind | P-trap | A pipe runs back from the bowl into the wall. |
| Hidden in a ledge or wall, bowl hangs off the wall | Wall-hung bowl to suit the concealed cistern and frame | No base touching the floor. Note the cistern brand before you shop. |
Measure from the finished wall (the tile face) to the centre of the outlet and take that number to the shop. Distances vary between flats, so do not trust a "standard HDB size". Many bowls come with a pan collar, and some retailers sell extra connectors for other distances, but those are often out of stock. Ask before you pay.
What actually separates one bowl from another
| Feature | Why it matters | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| WELS ticks | Sets how much water each flush uses. New installs must be 2 ticks or better. | The WELS label on the box. 3 ticks is the top rating for cisterns. |
| One-piece or two-piece | Price, cleaning, and whether you can replace just the cistern later. | See one-piece vs two-piece. |
| Rimless bowl | No hidden rim for grime to sit under. | The word "rimless" in the model name, not just the photo. |
| Glaze | Some glazes resist staining better, such as TOTO's CeFiONtect. | Named glaze on the spec sheet. |
| Skirted sides | Smooth sides with no exposed trap curves to wipe. | "Skirted" or "side skirt" in the specs. |
| Soft-close seat | Quieter, and the lid does not slam. | Whether the seat is included. Some bowls are sold without one. |
| Bidet-ready | Lets you add a washer seat later. | Bowl shape (elongated or round) and seat hole spacing. |
| Rim height | Lower bowls are harder for older users. | The rim height in mm on the spec sheet. |
WELS, in litres
PUB's thresholds for dual-flush cisterns are short enough to memorise. A full flush above 3.5 and up to 4.0 litres, with a reduced flush above 2.5 and up to 3.0 litres, earns 2 ticks. A full flush of 3.5 litres or less, with a reduced flush of 2.5 litres or less, earns 3 ticks. Since 1 April 2019 only 2-tick or better fittings may be supplied and installed.
A spec that does not add up
One Singapore retailer lists the TOTO C889 with a 4.5 L / 3 L flush and no WELS rating. A 4.5 L full flush is above PUB's 2-tick limit, so either the listing is wrong or the stock is not the version you want. Ask to see the WELS label on the box before you pay.
Brands sold in Singapore, side by side
Prices below are sale prices we saw on Singapore retailer pages in October 2026. They change weekly, and several were marked low stock or sold out on the day. Warranty is what the brand or retailer page states.
| Brand | Example model and price | Stated warranty | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| American Standard | Neo Modern two-piece CL26305, $377; Neo Modern one-piece CL25315, $427 | Up to 5 years, depending on product type | Widest choice under $500. 3-tick models with soft-close seats. |
| Baron | W898 rimless one-piece with Geberit flushing system, $439 | 10 years on the flush mechanism | Low price for a rimless one-piece. Seat cover is urea, soft-close. |
| Roz / Krisroz | Roz RWC-907 one-piece, $329; Krisroz KWC 912, $489 | Registered through Hoe Kee | Sold by Hoe Kee, which runs the warranty registration. |
| Grohe | Bau Ceramic 39997000 rimless one-piece, $799 | Up to 5 years, depending on product type | Also sells the Rapid SL concealed frames used behind wall-hung bowls. |
| TOTO | C769 rimless two-piece, $1,075; C889 rimless one-piece, $1,160 | 1 year | Distributed by W. Atelier. Tornado Flush and CeFiONtect glaze. |
| Kohler | One-piece, two-piece, wall-hung and wall-faced ranges | 5-year limited warranty on vitreous china, residential use | We could not confirm a current Singapore shelf price. Ask the dealer. |
| Geberit | Concealed cisterns and frames, such as the Sigma range | Check with the seller | You meet Geberit behind the wall of a wall-hung toilet, not as a floor bowl. |
Kohler's warranty page says five years in its heading and "three year" in one line of the same section, so get the term in writing from the dealer.
TOTO vs Kohler, and TOTO vs Grohe
Neither question has a winner on quality alone. All three make vitreous china bowls with dual flush and rimless options. The differences you can check are price, warranty and the add-ons each brand builds around its bowls.
| TOTO | Kohler | Grohe | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entry rimless bowl we found | C769 two-piece, $1,075 | No SG price confirmed | Bau Ceramic one-piece, $799 |
| Stated warranty | 1 year | 5-year limited, residential | Up to 5 years, depends on product |
| Flush stated | C769: 4/3 L (2-tick range). C889: 4.5/3 L, no WELS shown | Check WELS label | 3.5/2.5 L, 3 ticks |
| Own glaze or flush tech | CeFiONtect glaze, Tornado Flush | Not checked for SG models | Rimless bowl |
| Bidet seats from the same brand | Washlet (electric) and Ecowasher (non-electric) | Electronic and manual bidet seats listed on kohler.com.sg | Not checked |
On the numbers we could verify, Grohe's Bau Ceramic gives a 3-tick rimless one-piece for less than TOTO's cheapest rimless two-piece. TOTO's case is its glaze and its matching Washlet and Ecowasher seats. Kohler's case is the longer stated warranty. If you pick TOTO for the glaze, check the WELS label on the exact box.
Picks for the usual situations
| If you want | Model | Price seen | Why | Catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A cheap like-for-like HDB swap | American Standard Neo Modern CL26305 (two-piece) | $377 | 3 ticks, soft-close seat, pan collar included | The listing gives two different flush volumes. Check the box. |
| The cheapest decent one-piece | American Standard Neo Modern CL25315 | $427 | 3 ticks (3.5/2.5 L), soft-close seat | Not rimless |
| Rimless on a budget | Baron W898 | $439 | Rimless, Geberit flushing system, 3 ticks, 10 years on the mechanism | Trap variants were out of stock when we checked |
| Easiest to keep clean | Grohe Bau Ceramic 39997000, or TOTO C889 | $799 / $1,160 | Both rimless. TOTO adds the CeFiONtect glaze. | TOTO's listed flush is above the 2-tick limit; check the label |
| A bidet with no power point | TOTO C889 with Ecowasher TCW08S | $1,399 | Non-electric washer seat, rear wash, soft-close | No heated water or seat |
| Warm-water electric bidet | TOTO C769ESI with Washlet TCF23410ASG | $2,431 (Modern Home) | Integrated electric washer seat | Needs a power point near the toilet |
Two of the "best toilet bowl" lists that rank for this search are written by shops ranking their own stock. One gives no prices at all, and the other's cheapest pick is $482. The bowls above are not ranked. They are the cheapest ones we found that meet each need, with the catch we noticed.
For older users, check the rim height, not the label
American Standard sells a Cygnet "Raised Height" two-piece, CL26265, at $599. Its listing gives a rim height of 390 mm. The same retailer lists the $377 Neo Modern CL26305 with a rim height of 390 mm too. On paper, the raised-height model is not taller.
So compare the rim height figure on each spec sheet, and if possible sit on the display model. If the bowl you have is fine apart from height, a raised toilet seat and grab bars may help more than a new bowl. HDB's EASE programme subsidises grab bars for eligible flats.
Installation: who can do it and what it costs
Installing, changing or moving a toilet bowl must be done by a PUB Licensed Plumber. Since 1 April 2018 it has been an offence to engage an unlicensed person for it. Fixing the cistern's flush parts or changing the seat is exempt, so a handyman may do those. Check a plumber's licence with PUB's directory.
| Item | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Labour only, like-for-like with your own bowl | $80–150 |
| Basic bowl supplied and installed | $150–500 |
| Two-piece bowl, unit only | $150–400 |
| One-piece bowl, unit only | $300–700 |
| Premium, wall-hung or smart bowl, unit only | $800–1,500, some more |
| Non-electric bidet seat | $110–130, plus about $25 to fit |
| New power point for an electric bidet seat (Licensed Electrical Worker) | $250–450 |
Ask whether the quote covers removing and disposing of the old bowl, a new flexible hose and angle valve, and resealing the base. Old bowls set in cement take longer to lift and can crack nearby tiles.
We replace toilet bowls island-wide, 24/7, with a PUB Licensed Plumber on the job. Send a photo of the old bowl and the outlet on WhatsApp for a price range, and the price is agreed before work starts. Workmanship is covered for 1 week to 1 month depending on the job, and the bowl carries the manufacturer's warranty. See toilet bowl replacement, the HDB version and toilet bowl buying notes.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best brand of toilet bowl?
No single brand wins on every count. For an HDB swap on a budget, American Standard and Baron have 3-tick bowls under $450. TOTO has its own glaze and its own bidet seats, but states 1 year of warranty. Kohler states 5 years on vitreous china, and Grohe and American Standard up to 5 years depending on the product.
Is Kohler or TOTO better?
On what we could verify, Kohler states a 5-year limited warranty on vitreous china for home use, while TOTO's Singapore retail listings state 1 year. TOTO has its CeFiONtect glaze, Tornado Flush and Washlet seats. We could not confirm current Kohler prices in Singapore, so compare written quotes for the models you like.
Which is the best brand for toilets in an HDB flat?
Any brand that makes an S-trap bowl to fit your outlet and carries a 2-tick or better WELS label. American Standard's Neo Modern two-piece at about $377 and one-piece at about $427 are among the cheapest 3-tick bowls we found in October 2026.
Is TOTO or Grohe better?
Grohe's Bau Ceramic is a rimless 3-tick one-piece at about $799, cheaper than TOTO's rimless C889 at about $1,160, and Grohe states up to 5 years of warranty against TOTO's 1 year. TOTO's advantages are its CeFiONtect glaze and matching Washlet seats.
How much does it cost to change a toilet bowl in Singapore?
A basic bowl supplied and installed is usually $150–500. If you buy the bowl yourself, like-for-like fitting labour is typically $80–150. Removing a cemented old bowl, disposal and new valves can add to that, so ask what the quote covers.
Do I need a licensed plumber to change a toilet bowl?
Yes. Installing, changing or relocating a toilet bowl needs a PUB Licensed Plumber. Repairing the cistern's flush parts or replacing the seat cover does not.
Can I add a bidet seat to any toilet bowl?
Most, but check the bowl shape and the seat hole spacing first. TOTO's non-electric Ecowasher TCW08S, for example, fits hole spacing of 140–160 mm. An electric bidet seat also needs a power point near the toilet.
