Safe things to try first
- Measure the bowl's shape and size, as raised seats are made for round or elongated bowls.
- Ask the user's doctor or therapist how much extra height they need.
- For a clip-on seat, check it is locked firmly in place before each use.
- Check there is something sturdy to hold beside the toilet. If not, plan grab bars at the same time.
Stop and call if
- The seat moves, tilts or lifts when someone sits or stands.
- The user still struggles to stand with the raised seat, which means grab bars or a toilet frame may be needed.
- The bowl itself is cracked or loose on the floor.
