When to replace or repair

Safe things to try first
- Measure the outside diameter of your slide rail, or take the old holder to the shop, so the replacement fits.
- If the holder has a tightening screw or knob, try tightening it gently before replacing anything.
- Check that your handset's handle shape suits the cradle of the new holder.
Stop and call if
- The bracket has pulled out of the wall and the tile around the hole is cracked.
- Water is leaking from behind the bracket or from the wall outlet.
- The rail itself is bent or rusted, so a new holder will not grip it.

HDB
Shower fittings inside your flat are your responsibility, not the town council's. A slide-on or clamp-on holder needs no drilling. A fixed bracket does, and drilling is noisy work with set hours under HDB renovation rules.

Inform security that a contractor is coming. If the shower set came with the unit, find the brand and model on the set or in your handover documents so the right holder can be ordered.
Landed
If an old rail is an uncommon size and no holder fits, replacing the rail together with its own holder is usually simpler than hunting for a match.

How do I find a holder that fits my rail?
Measure the outside diameter of the rail and take a photo of the old holder, including any brand marking. Universal holders cover common sizes but not all, so match the measurement before buying.
Can I replace the holder myself?
Often yes, if it slides or clamps onto the rail. Fixed brackets drilled into tiles are harder, and a cracked tile costs more to fix than the holder itself.
My new holder fits but still slips. Why?
The rubber grip insert or the tightening screw may be worn, or the rail may be too smooth for a push-fit holder. A holder with a screw clamp usually grips better.
Do I need a licensed plumber for this?
No. A handset holder is not connected to the water supply, so it is not licensed plumbing work.
Should I change the hose and handset at the same time?
If the hose is kinked or leaking, or the handset is clogged with scale, it makes sense to replace them on the same visit, since the visit is already paid for.
