Plumbers by home type and urgency

Emergency plumber

A plumbing emergency is water you cannot stop, sewage backing up, or water reaching electrics or the home below. Shut the main valve at your meter first, then WhatsApp us a photo. We work 24/7 and confirm the earliest slot and the after-hours price before anyone sets off.

When to call

  • A pipe or flexible hose has burst and water is spraying or pouring out.
  • Water keeps flowing after you close the tap or the valve under the sink.
  • A toilet or floor trap is overflowing, or dirty water is coming up through the floor trap.
  • Water is reaching power points, the distribution board or appliances.
  • Water is pouring through the ceiling from the home above, or leaking into the home below.
  • A storage water heater is leaking heavily or keeps tripping the power.

Common jobs

  • Isolating and repairing burst pipes and flexible hoses under sinks, basins and toilets.
  • Clearing overflowing toilet and floor trap chokes.
  • Replacing a failed stop valve or angle valve that will not shut.
  • Making a leaking water heater safe and isolating it until it can be repaired or replaced.
  • Temporary repairs at night, with the permanent fix done in normal hours when parts are available.

Before you call

Safe things to try first

  • Shut the main valve. In HDB blocks it is at the water meter in the corridor meter compartment; in condos it is usually inside the unit near the kitchen; in landed houses it is at the PUB meter near the gate.
  • If water is near power points or appliances, switch off at the distribution board only if you can reach it without standing in water. Switch off the water heater too.
  • Stop flushing or running water into a choked toilet or floor trap.
  • Move valuables, lay towels, put pails under drips, and take photos and videos for your records or insurer.

Stop and call if

  • Water keeps flowing after you shut the main valve. The valve may have failed, or the water may be coming from a common pipe or the home above.
  • Dirty water comes up through the floor trap while you are not using water. In HDB blocks, call your town council's emergency maintenance hotline; in condos, call management.
  • You smell burning or see sparks near the water. Keep clear and get electrical help.
  • Your whole block or street has no water. That is a supply issue for PUB, the town council or management, not a plumber.

What we do

  1. 1Ask you to shut the main valve first if you have not, then look at your photo or video and postal code.
  2. 2Tell you honestly whether someone can come and roughly when, with the price or surcharge, before anyone sets off. If no one is free, we say so, so you can try elsewhere.
  3. 3Make it safe on arrival: isolate the leak, clear the overflow, or switch off and isolate a leaking heater.
  4. 4Do the permanent repair if the parts are on hand. If not, make a temporary fix and come back in normal hours, quoted separately.
  5. 5Test the repair, help clear water from the work area, and tell you who else to inform, such as the town council, management or your insurer.

HDB, condo and landed

HDB

Your main valve is at the water meter in the corridor meter compartment. Problems with the common stack or common pipes go to your town council's emergency maintenance hotline, which takes calls after hours.

Condo

Your stop valve is usually inside the unit near the kitchen. Tell security a plumber is coming at night, and call management if water is leaking into another unit or a common area.

Landed

Your main valve is at the PUB meter near the gate, so keep a torch where you can find it. Check whether the water is from a supply pipe, which the valve will stop, or an overflowing chamber, which it will not.

Emergency plumber: common questions

How do I shut off the water in my HDB flat?

Go to the meter compartment along the common corridor and find the meter labelled with your unit number. Close the valve next to it: turn a round handle clockwise until it stops, or turn a lever a quarter turn so it sits across the pipe. There is often a second valve inside, near the kitchen or service yard.

What counts as a plumbing emergency?

Water you cannot stop, sewage backing up into your home, water reaching electrics, or water leaking into a neighbour's home. A dripping tap, a running cistern or no hot water can usually wait for normal hours once you close the nearest valve.

Who do I call if the common stack chokes at night?

In an HDB block, your town council's emergency maintenance hotline, which handles common property problems after hours. In a condo, the management office or security. A private plumber is not the right first call for the common stack.

Will my home insurance cover a burst pipe?

It depends on your policy. Check what it covers for the pipe repair and for water damage to your home and your neighbour's, take photos before and after, and keep the plumber's itemised invoice.

Water is coming through my ceiling. Who do I call?

Go upstairs first and ask the neighbour to shut their main valve and stop using the bathroom or kitchen above. In HDB flats, a leak that keeps coming back follows HDB's ceiling leak process; in condos, tell management. Our ceiling leak page explains who usually pays.
