What changes the price

  • A swap in an existing opening, or a new opening or duct.
  • Fan type. Inline duct fans and greaseproof kitchen fans cost more than basic window fans.
  • Duct length, number of bends and access above the ceiling.
  • Noise. Low-noise models and anti-vibration mounts add cost.
  • Whether a new power point or switch is needed from an LEW.
  • Weather protection, such as a cowl or louvre shutter on an outside opening.

What is included

Usually included

  • Transport to your home
  • Sizing advice for the room
  • Fitting the fan with a backdraft shutter
  • Airflow and noise test

Usually extra

  • New wiring, power points or switches, which need an LEW
  • Cooker hood supply or installation
  • Coring through walls, quoted separately where allowed
  • False ceiling repairs after duct work

HDB vs condo vs landed

HDB

Usually at the low end. HDB kitchens and service yards mostly have windows, so a window-type fan with no ducting is the usual fit.

Condo

Costs more when the fan must connect to an existing duct or riser, or be fitted through a small false-ceiling hatch. Façade changes need MCST approval, which limits the options.

Landed

Varies the most. New wall openings, long duct runs and high ceilings all add time, but there are fewer limits on where a fan can go.

Ventilation fan installation price: common questions

Why does an inline duct fan cost more than a window fan?

The fan sits inside a duct, often above a false ceiling, so the job includes running and supporting the duct, sealing the joints and fitting an outlet. A window fan simply replaces a window panel.

Do quieter or greaseproof fans cost more?

Usually, yes. Kitchen fans built for grease have cleanable grilles and sealed motors, and quiet models use better bearings and mounts. For a kitchen, or a room next to a bedroom, the extra is often worth it.

Is ducting included in the price?

A short connection to an existing duct usually is. A new duct run is quoted after seeing the route, because length and ceiling access change the work a lot.
